Official Spectator Maps
All Spectators will receive a designated area map at the front gate on Boone Rd. Spectating is only allowed in designated spectator areas during active race hours. Please respect the course boundaries.
Johnson Valley is a varied landscape punctuated by steep red rocky mountains and open valleys. While the 188,000-acre OHV area is open to visitors, strict adherence to spectator rules is required to keep this event alive.
Viewing Safety
- 150ft Distance: Do not get closer than 150 feet from the racecourse. Rocks fly further than you think.
- Dangerous Positioning: NEVER view from the outside of a turn or downhill from an obstacle. Gravity always wins.
- Rock Ledges: Do not climb steep ledges directly above other spectators or the track.
- No Parking: Absolutely no parking on the racecourse or access roads. You will be towed.
Driving Rules
- Speed Limits: 15 MPH on Boone Rd & inside Camp. 20 MPH in the Pits. Dust control is mandatory.
- Helmets: Required on all ATVs, UTVs, and motorcycles. No exceptions.
- No Chasing: Chasing race vehicles is strictly prohibited and dangerous.
- Registration: All vehicles must have valid registration (Non-CA OHV temp reg required for out-of-state visitors).
Spectator Survival
- Pack it In, Pack it Out: There is no trash service in the desert. If you bring it, you take it home. Keep the lakebed clean.
- Prepare for Cold: It's the desert in February. Days are nice, nights are freezing. Bring layers.
- Hydrate: The wind and sun dehydrate you faster than you realize. Drink water.
- Limited Cell Service: Cell service is spotty at best on the lakebed. Plan meeting points with friends in advance.
Strictly Prohibited
- Glass Containers: No glass bottles allowed. Broken glass tires and feet do not mix.
- Pallets: Do not burn pallets with nails. It destroys tires for years to come.
- Dumping: Unlawful to dump RV waste water on the ground.
- FIREWORKS: See below. Just don't do it.
No Fireworks Allowed
We love loud noises, but only from engines. Fireworks are strictly prohibited in Johnson Valley by the BLM.
Possession or use leads to immediate ejection. Please don't be the reason we lose our permits.
